Chapter 4: Killer Instinct
As the sun sets on the city, Lock stands off against Ken at the pier. Bianca sits on the sideline and watches the fight with a bag of corn dogs while waving a flag that says “Detective.”
Ken: Ha! Are you that confident in him, Bianca? This fight isn’t gonna last so long that you had to buy so much food, you know?
Bianca: As you know, two combatants training together and two that are fighting each other mean different things. When both combatants know that the match is a training session, they tend not to go all out to avoid hurting each other. But when you’re out for blood, it’s a whole different story.
Ken: So what you’re saying is that there’s more to him than meets the eye…
Ken draws her sword and takes a ready stance.
Ken: Then let me see what you’ve got!
Ken dashes at Lock, who remains motionless. She swings her sword but Lock simply dodges them. Lock dodges each strike swiftly and with perfect timing, frustrating Ken more and more. Ken goes for a stab attack, but Lock dodges and disarms her. Ken puts some distance between her and Lock, showing caution with her opponent.
Ken: What the hell was that? I can't touch him...
Bianca: (With her mouth full of food) I told you so…
Ken: (Annoyed) Don’t talk with your mouth full!
Bianca swallows and drinks some water.
Bianca: Do you see now? Your biggest mistake was underestimating your opponent. Lock has been training with me for an entire month. Sure he hasn’t been able to hit me yet, but he’s always been a capable fighter. Capable enough to last a whole six minutes against me and we all know how aggressively I fight.
Lock: Compared to Bianca your movements are slower by a few leagues, but it’s not only because of that that I was able to dodge your sword. It's because you're holding back on me.
Ken: W-well of course. You seem like such a pushover that I wanted to check you out first. I doubt there's anything special about you anyway.
Lock: Stop playing games already, you idiot. My whole life I’ve trained my body, mind, and spirit just so I could be the person I know my family could be proud of, but I always knew I lacked something: A killer instinct that would allow me to take my enemies head on, whether if they're Grimm or another person.
Lock takes off his hat and takes a deep breath.
Lock: When I first felt pain on all three levels, mind, body, and spirit, I gained that instinct and learned from it.
Lock kicks Ken’s sword over to her and throws his hat to Bianca.
Lock: Hold onto that will ya? I don’t want it to get ruined.
Bianca: (Puts on the hat) Right.
Lock: (To Ken) And as for you, you better take this seriously. Because if you want an all-out fight with me, you better bring you’re A game and not whatever that crap was.
Ken separates the black blade from its hilt, revealing a red sword underneath. She takes a sword stance wielding the two blades simultaneously with a serious look on her face. Lock draws Ritter and it transforms into its sword mode then he takes a ready stance as well.
Bianca: It seems she took the detective’s words to heart. Now the fight really begins.
