Chapter 5: Firestorm
With both Lock and Ken on edge in an all-out match, they face each other with the intent to kill. Ken dashes at Lock with great speed, only to fake him out at the last second. She comes at Lock on his left side and swings the black blade at him. Lock blocks and is left wide open for the second blade. The red sword ignites with fire and is swung at Lock’s other side. Lock defends with an ember knife and then kicks Ken in her stomach, knocking her down on her back. Lock throws the now flaming ember knife at Ken, but she deflects it and sends it flying into the air. Lock takes this opportunity to attack Ken while she’s down and off guard. As Lock swings his sword, Ken’s eyes begin to glow red and she bursts into an eruption of flames, knocking Lock into the air, but he recovers and lands on his feet.
Bianca: Hey detective. I suggest you start giving it everything you’ve got, otherwise this is gonna hurt.
Lock: How much is it gonna hurt?
Bianca: Well….like walking through a forest of glass naked….while on fire.
Lock: Any advice?
Bianca: That was your advice.
Lock: (sarcastic) You’re a real coach, Bianca….
Bianca: Really?
Lock: (annoyed) NO!!
Suddenly, a ball of fire dashes out of the flames and at Lock. Ken’s sword comes out of the fire and is swung at Lock.
Lock: Holy-
Lock’s eye briefly glows yellow and he defends, barely holding his ground against the attack. The ball of fire disperses, revealing Ken with red hair, red eyes, and her hair and tail are on fire.
Lock: Damn it!
Ken suddenly disappears from Lock’s sight, causing him to stumble. She suddenly appears behind him and swings her sword. Lock barely blocks it with his sword, but the instant he does, Ken appears in front of him and kicks him in the stomach. Lock falls on his knees, holding his stomach. He then coughs and looks at Ken.
Lock: (thinking to himself) Her speed…Her power…is this what she’s like when she goes all out?
Ken: Is that all? What a waste of time. To think that I had to use my semblance on someone like you.
Bianca: So that’s it then. That increased speed and strength, those red flames, that explains a lot. You know, in the wild an animal becomes a lot more dangerous when cornered. I’ve heard that the more dangerous the animal is, the harder they fight to survive. Like achieving some kind of second wind or maybe like their inner instincts running wild. Hunters see it all the time but mostly from foxes…and wolves.
Bianca picks up her rifle and begins to approach Ken. Suddenly, Ken is shot at by Lock, but she cuts the bullet in half. Lock then attempts to sweep Ken’s feet but she jumps in the air and evades the attack.
Bianca: Stay out of this detective. You’ve had your chance and you failed. Now it’s my turn.
Lock: (thinking to himself) I can’t hear anything…Just like before…When my mom died…
Ritter transforms into it’s sword mode and begins to glow. Lock holds his sword up and looks at Ken, his eyes dim and yellow.
Lock (thinking to himself): Right then. She’s the one that I have to kill…
Bianca: Yellow eyes...?
Ken readies herself and prepares to fight Lock again.
Ken: You should have stayed down. Now it’s going to be worse for you.
