Chapter 7: Damage Report
At the Shining Blade, Bianca is sitting at the counter with a can of soda and a radio while Lock restocks the shelves.
Reporter (radio): In today’s news: Police are still investigating the explosion at the harbor two nights ago. Reports say that there was damage to property but the strange thing is that there were no clues left behind on who or what caused the incident. Citizens are advised to stay safe at night.
Bianca turns off the radio and sits up in her chair
Bianca: Good. Looks like we’re clear.
Lock: That’s good news. I’d rather not go to jail because of some fight that got out of hand.
Bianca: And I rather stay out of the news. Don’t want people to know who I am after all.
Lock: (annoyed) It’s obvious!! Seriously, what was your plan to avoid attention when you came here!?
Bianca: Staying off the streets, avoiding people, and most importantly don’t give my real name. That’s why I lived in a warehouse instead of an apartment….although I did have to steal food from people….
Lock looks at Bianca in disbelief.
Lock: You’re an idiot, aren’t you….?
Bianca: That’s not nice….
Lock: *sigh* One of these days, I’m going to find a disguise or something for you because you are killing me….
Bianca: A disguise? I haven’t thought of that…
Lock’s eye twitches with irritation. He scratches his head and walks over to the counter.
Lock: So anyway...Ken’s doing better. She’s still asleep but her wounds are healing up nicely. Her eye will have a scar but she’ll be fine.
Bianca: I see. What about you?
Lock: Well I can see clearly again. The pain stopped too. Overall, I’d say I’m back to normal.
Bianca: That’s good to hear. You're even reckless with your own semblance.
Lock: I know...
Bianca slides her soda over to Lock.
Lock: You’re sharing? That’s a first.
Bianca: It’s not food.
Lock: Ah, I see.
Lock turns the radio back on and drinks the soda.
Reporter (radio): -is the best option for your pet’s diet. In other news, there have been reports of a spree of robberies in town. The robberies usually occur at night as shop owners come to work and see property damage upon arrival.
Lock: Overkill much?
Reporter (radio): These businesses belong to well-known blacksmiths and weapon experts who sell high valued parts and-
Lock: Ah crap...
Bianca turns off the radio.
Bianca: Places that sell high valued parts? You don’t think…
Lock: We’ve got metals that are hard to find in most places. The boss works on weapons that need repairs or improvements and sells parts of great value...like the ones belonging to the Snow Arms Company…
Bianca: Should we tell the manager?
Lock: He’s taking the week off. Says that this place has been getting popular lately so he’s “savoring his good fortune.” So as of yesterday, we’re closed.
Bianca: Well that’s good because if he’s not here then we won’t have to worry about him getting hurt in case someone does come and we also have the element of surprise. They wouldn't expect us to be here waiting for them.
Lock: Us?
Bianca: I'll be helping too.
Lock: Why?
Bianca: Because we're friends.
Lock: Thank you.
Bianca smiles and nods her head in assurance.
Bianca: Also there's Ken. Judging from the report, these criminals are the violent type. They might harm her if we resist.
Lock: You're right. So what do we do?
Bianca: We lock this place down and give them a Shining Blade welcome that they’ll never forget.
